Calcookara Stud was founded in 1912 by the late Ernest Perry Smith and has been passed down through four generations seeing Niel and his son Brenton now running the stud on the original Calcookara property.
The Stud had been based on Collinsville bloodlines until the mid 1990’s when it used outside infusions from Roseville Park to improve wool quality, we again infused Roseville Park rams in 2005 and 2007. |

At Calcookara we see the future merino to be an easy care animal, therefore our breeding objectives are for a large, plain, robust, highly fertile animal with a bare breech, carrying a long, white, soft, crimpy fleece around 19 to 20 micron, free from wool rot and dermatitis.
Calcookaras annual ram sale is held on the first Friday in September where up to 100 rams are offered by auction. We also offer a further draft of young rams which are available in September/October by appointment. All rams are sold with current wool tests. |
